The All Star game has come and gone and now teams have started playing the last 30 or so games of their season, either gearing up for the playoffs or trying to salvage what they can out of a lost season. There are many predictions to be made for the final part of the season including playoff position, award races, and whether the Knicks will get to 20 wins. So let's get to them. 1. THE CAVS WILL NOT MAKE IT TO THE FINALS- sorry band-wagoners but Lebron can't always lead his team to the promise land. Well, at least not this year. The Cavs have been playing well as of late, but when it comes to playoff time, they will lack the experience together as a team that is needed to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy (see last years Spurs if you're confused). 2. A GUARD WILL WIN THE MVP AWARD- the West is stacked. Not only are the teams stacked but it contains most of the top ten players in the entire league, including three guards who are MVP candidates. Steph Curry is hot off winning the three-point contest, Russell Westbrook won the MVP award in the All-Star game with an astonishing 41 points in 26 minutes, and James Harden, well, lets just say every defense in the NBA fears the beard. Barring injuries, if one of these players does not win the MVP award, everyone here at Rational Fanz will be utterly shocked. 3. THE BULLS WILL FIGHT THROUGH IT ALL AND MAKE IT TO THE FINALS- here's where you all begin to hate me, but yes I do believe the Bulls will be in the Finals come June. They had two All Stars this season, and they weren't even named Derrick Rose or Joakim Noah. Jimmy Butler is finally turning into the stud that he has always seemed like and will most likely win Most Improved Player award this year. Pau Gasol is being tracked down by Indiana Jones so that he can tell him where the fountain of youth is in Chicago, because Gasol is having one of the best seasons he's ever had and he's 34. Joakim Noah is returning from a knee surgery this off season and is looking better every game. Derrick Rose may be back during playoff time but whether he is or not the Bulls will continue to fight. Thibedeau is one of the best coaches in the league and always gets the best out of his players, especially during hardships like this. Not to mention the Bulls' bench is as deep as the Mariana Trench, ( The deepest part of the ocean in the world for those of you who are somewhat illiterate) with Doug McDermott, last year's NCAA Player of the Year, at the very end of it. The East is weak, and Chicago has always proven that they will fight no matter what.

Derrick Rose has been through a lot of trials over the past three years. Not only has he had two serious knee injuries in a torn ACL and torn meniscus, but he has received a lot of heat as well. Whether it has been from the media, people who follow the NBA, and supposed Chicago Bulls' "fans", Rose has received so much ridicule over things he could not even control. Through all of it though, D-Rose has never given up and never lost his confidence in himself. For that, he deserved to be an All-Star this year. Rose is averaging 18.9 ppg on 41.5%, 5 apg, and 3.1 rpg. Not exactly your prototypical All-Star point guard numbers, but still quality stats. It is the way Rose does it though. He makes teams account for him every possession. On scouting reports, Rose is always the top man on the list that teams are looking to shut down. He will always be the one to take the last shot of the game, as seen here as he drills a game winning jumper against the Warriors. Rose is the home town hero for the Chicago Bulls. He has faced so much adversity over his life that he deserves to be honored for all of his effort and his valor.
20 losses. 20 losses to a team that many thought would break the Jordan Bulls' regular season record of 72-10. What happened? Growing pains is an answer most people like to say but when the infamous Heatles first came together they were figuring things out by this point in the season. The Cavs have made two trades over the past couple weeks, obtaining J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert, and Timofey Mosgov while losing Dion Waiters, Lou Amundson, Alex Kirk, and a couple draft picks. These are perhaps the most desperate moves that have been made this season. I don't know if anyone has noticed but the Knicks are doing horrendous this year. J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert were certainly not the the whole problem, but they were definitely a part of it. J.R. Smith is known to be one of the more selfish players players in the leagues and Iman Shumpert isn't much better. They will not solve any of the Cavs' problems but most likely create even more. Secondly, the trade for Timofey Mosgov made more sense, considering that they needed a center ever since Anderson Varejao went down for the season. However, Mosgov gets dunked on left and right. Too many times he is on the wrong end of a poster that would be hanging up in a 12 year old's room. As seen here as Blake Griffin destroys his soul. Although Mosgov can be a decent center at times he is no Anderson Varejeo.
The point being made about these trades is that it's halfway through the season. You haven't figured out how to play together as a team before these trades were made. Why would adding more new faces fix that? Have no fear though Cleveland fans. You still have the best player in the world in Lebron James, an all star power forward who can score from anywhere on the court, and a young point guard who won a gold medal this past summer on the USA team. One day it will all come together. However as of right now, things will most likely get worse. |
