I'm sure we've all been well informed about the Lakers' locker room rift between Nick Young and rookie D'Angelo Russell. The reason I let you know the Russell is a rookie is because he made a rookie mistake in this situation. He recorded a conversation with another teammate, a conversation that happened in private. Yeah, that's a dumb move that you wouldn't see a veteran do. But the point of this article isn't to attack Russell and what he did, it's to attack social media and our society as a whole for this entire mess. But not the reason you'd think.
Some of you reading this may call me a radical conservative for my views here, but it isn't a mater of being conservative. It's a matter of morals. The conversation between Russell and Young that was recorded was Nick Young telling Russell that he cheated on his fiancee, Iggy Azalea. And yet this whole situation is being hashed out for what D'Angelo Russell did, not the fact that Nick Young cheated on his wife-to-be. Social Media has absolutely made Russell look like the bad guy, but yet he's not totally to blame. He's been put at the center of Nick Young's problem, which would have surfaced eventually and then been blown up. The situation only arose sooner because of Russell's rookie mistake, which destroyed any trust he had built with the Lakers. Yeah, Russel is at fault here, but yet the bigger issue is that Nick Young cheated. And yet the media has totally overlooked that fact. It stems from the saying, it's only illegal if you get caught. Nick Young has been caught. If he had been caught by Iggy, then he would look like a horrible person and he would be the center of this mess, but instead his teammate caught him, and now D'Angelo looks like the bad guy. Has it become acceptable in our society to cheat on our significant others? There was once a time when that was frowned upon, but not in this instance. I have heard exactly one sports analyst mention the fact that Young cheated. All the others are saying that Russell is a horrible dude for taping the conversation, which is an invasion of privacy, that's for sure. I'm not saying Russell is innocent here, but the media is saying that Nick Young is. Not at all is he innocent. It stems from the self-centered nature of these wealthy famous people, who don't think of others. The way that this has unfolded is almost sickening. If you listened to our podcast today, then you heard Evan make this point. Our society has fallen to the point of overlooking the immorality of Nick Young, and zeroing in on Russell and his immaturity. I know some of you won't agree with my views in this article, but each journalist outs their own spin on each topic, and this is my spin. -Rhett Coblentz
